- This is a very simple story. It may even seem to be a typical bollywood movie story. But i wrote it with a couple of things in mind. I have seen a couple of my friends undergo the bitter agony of a divorce or a breakup. And that phase has been very painful for them. That made me wonder on one thing. have we really lost the importance and meaning of marriage?
Love knows no bounds…… So was the case with Suresh….. An intimate glance and he had fallen ill by the arrows of love. “What is wrong Suresh? Are you all right? The boss has been complaining about your performance of late. Your work has deteriorated”. These were the words of Anil, Suresh’s colleague who worked with him in an MNC. Both were sipping coffee in the break and Anil seemed much concerned about Suresh. “Nothing yaar. Just work load…” said Suresh, rather irrritatedly. “Hey come on, there is some issue. Won’t you tell me?”
Suresh became a bit hesitant. Expressions of dilemma could be seen clearly on his face. With a rather diffident feeling he continued, “Well it’s a girl actually. I haven’t been able to take my mind of her. She’s so charming. The beauty and confidence she has is inexplicable………..” He stopped here for a moment and then continued reluctantly…. “I love her.” Anil couldn’t help smiling. “I should have known this beforehand. Our handsome hunk has fallen in love”. “So did you tell her?” . “Yes, Anil. We both love each other dearly.” “That is great news. So when do we hear the wedding bells ringing?”.
“She is pursuing her HSC this year. Do you suppose that I ruin her study just because of my selfish interests? We have been friends since long. I chanced to meet her in a public library about three months ago. For me, it was love at first sight that took me so long to realize. She’s an independent girl and matured for her age. I can wait but her career cannot.”
“So, what about her parents?” “Do they agree?” “Well Anita confides everything to her mother. She knows that I love her daughter dearly” “I had never bothered to ask about her family background as such. But this is what I came to know from Anita herself.” “Well…. Lover boy I wish you all the best in life but don’t forget you have your own career too. Let’s go. The break alarm has already been sounded.”
24 year old Suresh was a dynamic, enthusiastic and a goal pursuing individual. Ever since his graduation he had aimed to be a part of a Multi National Company. He was going on by leaps and bounds when fate had led him to meet the beautiful Anita. He has resolved to marry her, in his heart.
18 year old Anita was a bubbly, open-minded girl. She had lost her father at a very early age and hence life had matured her more than her age. Her only friend, philosopher and guide, was her mother, to whom she confided everything, including her personal life. Her mother was aware of Suresh and like every concerned mother she was eager to know more about him. She became rest assured when Anita conveyed her that Suresh had never even once, tried to intimidate her. He was never keen on physical contact. Somehow Mohana (Anita’s mother) knew that her daughter had found someone who would remain with her forever, even in her absence.
Time progressed and Anita cleared her HSC with flying colors. In the meanwhile both Suresh and Anita had been constantly meeting in the park. Anita was now keen on some physical contact with Suresh but he always refrained himself which was a kind of reassurance for Mohana, who now thought that, only Suresh was the perfect choice for her daughter. Anita was now ardent for Suresh’s proposal. She could hardly wait for it. And finally when Suresh mustered up some courage to propose her for marriage, this farsighted young man said it in a way that left Anita a bit depressed and surprised. Anita had expected the typical “will you marry me?” thing from Suresh but instead he asked, “ When shall we get married and see our daughter?” Anita simply couldn’t understand Suresh’s farsightedness. She simply stared at him with a blank expression.
Suresh smiled and took her hand in his. “Anita, I know you must have expected something more romantic and lively from me. I know you are a matured girl. As it is today’s couples hardly think about anything but getting married and having physical intimacy after marriage. But what after that? Once the urge is gone marriage becomes a burden for them. I love you dearly Anita. And I would never want our marriage to suffer at any point of time. I just wanted to know if at all you understand the intensity and the deeper meaning behind my question.”
“So I have failed, right Suresh?”
“No my dear. My love doesn’t need any confirmations. I have always loved you.”
Getting on his knees he said, “Anita, will you marry me?”
“Yes i will”…. was the immediate reply….
